220 years earlier, the united states was destroyed and in its midst rose the Capitol which consists of surrounding 13 districts. Each district has its own way of life and for an occasion lived peacefully. However, after the time, the districts rose up against the Capitol along with a rebellion ensued. Featuring its superior weaponry and technology, the Capitol defeated the districts and completely obliterated District 13. To indicate the districts how superior Capitol is, on a yearly basis two children, one boy and one girl from each district, are chosen to fight on the death within the Hunger Games. 24 enter, 1 happens. Allow the Seventy-Fourth Hunger Games begin.
Y'all need to understand that i'm not and emotional person in terms of books. No, I promise I am not saying heartless, I just now don't cry easily. Yes, during books my heartrate accelerates and I'll feel bad for the characters, but I don't actually cry. It is among the only books where I've come this near to tears. And thats saying something.
When I get into each of the emotional much of this book, I must first discuss the characters.
Katniss is fantastic. She's incredibly strong and fierce. Now, that's one of the best sort of heroine and i also understand that sometimes this category learn to blend together but something I adore about her is although she might be these products like a great number of other heroines out there, she's not exactly lovable and witty like the majority of others. She's standoffish as well as a loner and it also has a very long time for anyone to get through to her. She's mature beyond her years because she's got to get. She was crowned the sole supporter of her family at a real young age and it also hardened her. She's a survivor. But sometimes this hard exterior became her downfall because she couldn't always see what's right in front of her: the fact people worry about her. However, although its challenging past her hardened exterior, as soon as you do, she's a tremendously kind and admirable person. Almost all of the shown through her actions with the reaping. She cared a whole lot on her family she was willing to risk her lifetime, knowing that her chances for returning home were slim, just to keep her sister safe. If it is really not worth respect, then I do not know precisely what is.
Peeta can be another great character. He's just about the total complete opposite of Katniss. He's personable, caring, and charming. He truly likes you Katniss even when she can't see it herself. Even if you don't end up being to learn to much about him because this is from Katniss' perspective, you'll be able to still notice that they have admirable qualities too. Normally I prefer the alpha male as well as the bad-boy (I assume its kinda my weakness) even so do also enticed by the sweet, respectful guys and I fell head-over-heels for his heart.
As for secondary characters? Amazing. Each was unique in their way. Effie, sweetly oblivious Effie. Haymitch, who may drink a tad to much, but has a heart under that surly exterior. Cinna, who truly really cares about Katniss even though he hardly knows her. Perhaps the other tributes each had their very own personalities that built them into unique (Don't even get me began Rue!).
This book was just so incredibly emotional. 24 kids enter an arena in support of 1 happens. I honestly can't even imagine finding myself their situation. I realize that we would do whatever it accepted survive, wait, how would that change me? Each tribute was just looking to survive. They didn't strive to be there (well, except some), but were forced to be. Whenever your facing your immediate death, how would you react? Survival changes people. These different reactions for their situations were shown remarkably well through the many various tributes. Collins' does an excellent jobs of showing how differing people would fare in cases like this. While all of the bloodshed when it comes to is disturbing, perhaps the most annoying thing personally was the fact the folks on the Capitol enjoyed it. Children were dying and them it turned out just entertainment. They were completely oblivious!! It had been all a game for them. So long as they were entertained, we were holding happy. That it was sick. Completely and utterly sick.
Also to will, I felt awful to the other tributes, even while they made an effort to kill Katniss and Peeta. How can you not? They were thrown to a situation some of them weren't ready for and just hoping to get home. Even though they were her enemies, I felt pity and guilt right in addition to Katniss. She, too, knows that these folks were only doing what they have to were forced to do exactly like she was.
The Hunger Games may be a dark book about death and destruction, but within its dark exterior is a beautiful story packed with survival, hope and fighting for the purpose you like.
